Tired of feeling guilty for leaving your four-legged friend at home when you’re on holiday? We’ve got the perfect solutions for you with this ultimate guide to adapting your holiday home for pets.
A guide to creating a pet-friendly holiday home!
Here at Lyons, we are committed to delivering the best experience for all our customers and owners, so that you can make joyful memories with your family over and over again. That is why we welcome your furry four-legged friends across all our Lyons Parks to join in on the family fun!
Afterall, your loving and adorable pooches will go wild for long walks across the North Wales countryside and chasing their ball across sandy beaches, so why not bring them along and not only avoid the expense of kennel fees but the dreaded guilt of leaving your beloved pooch behind.
Here is what you can do to ensure your holiday home is pet-friendly, so bringing your dog along on your relaxing Lyons getaway can be stress and hassle-free! This way, no member of the family has to be left behind.
Keeping your pooch ‘paw-fectly’ happy…
When taking your four-legged friends away with you, it is important you have the essentials at hand, such as food bowls, waste bags, towels for those muddy paws, food, a bed and blanket, as well as some added home comforts, like their favourite toys, yummy biscuits, and other treats, to keep their boredom at bay as you take time to relax in the comfort of your holiday home.
Once you equip your holiday home with these much-needed essentials, you won’t have to worry about packing them each time you plan on visiting your holiday home and forgetting those doggie essentials.
Pet-proofing your home.
After a fun-filled day running aimlessly across golden sands or through fields of green, your dog is bound to be wet, muddy, or both! The last thing you want is muddy paw prints trailed across your luxuriant carpets, so although you may find the idea of carpet appealing, we would say hard-flooring is a must when pet-proofing your holiday home, as it will be much easier to maintain in the long run. The last thing you want is to be on your hands and knees scrubbing mud out of your carpet when you’re supposed to have your feet up with a comforting cup of tea and you’re favourite biscuits (or even a glass of prosecco!).
It would also be handy to furnish your holiday home furniture with throws and blankets to protect your sofa from dirt and damage innocently caused by your adorable pooch. It may be a good idea to opt for darker colours that won’t show marks as easily. This can add an element of comfort and cosiness to your holiday home, allowing you and your dog to snuggle up on the sofa just like you would at home.
Ensure you are well equipped with plug-in air fresheners and pet-friendly fabric fresheners to eliminate those lingering pet odours and ensure your pet-friendly paradise smells as fresh as a daisy.
Make your outside space dog-friendly!
It may be a good idea to create an enclosed doggie zone outside of your holiday home; implementing fencing or a lovely decking area that would be a wonderful feature for your dog to enjoy some fresh air without being kept on a lead. You could even make it into a mini gardening project, placing beautiful flowers and plants to add a vibrant touch of colour to the outside of your holiday home!
Consider dog-friendly facilities in the area.
Before bringing your pet along with you on holiday, it is important to plan ahead and consider whether there may be any facility restrictions or beaches, for example, that unfortunately don’t allow dogs. After all, we know you won’t want to be leaving your pooch alone for long periods of time.
Luckily, there are plenty of dog-friendly beaches across the gorgeous North Wales coastline, such as, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Talacre, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and more!
Although our bars, amusement arcades, and other visitor attractions provided across the Lyons Holiday Parks sites may be off-limits, there are sure to be plenty of dog-friendly pubs, cafes, and shops in nearby proximity to your holiday home so your dog can enjoy lots of time by your side!
Of course, you want your holiday home to feel like a home away from home and our furry friends certainly fulfil that wholesome homely feeling! Bringing your pet along on holiday doesn’t have to be a chore and can be stress-free with careful planning and organization. As discussed throughout this article, we welcome all dogs, but if you wish to bring along your cat, guinea pig, or budgie, do not hesitate to enquire with us online or call us on 01745 342 264.
