Family-friendly and adult-only events in and around North Wales this August bank holiday – find out all you need to know here!
We’re in for a scorcher of a week according to the weather forecast, folks! What a perfect way to end the summer. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting North Wales this August Bank Holiday, you’re certainly in for a treat. Here, we’ve listed everything there is to do on this glorious long weekend, from live music to outdoor cinemas, to all-around entertainment whatever the weather!
1. Prestatyn Rocks Festival
Let’s kick off with this free, family-friendly event right here in Prestatyn, near Lyons Lido Beach! There’ll be children’s entertainment, live music, food, drink and much more at this two-day event on Saturday, August 28th and Sunday, August 29th. Tickets are free but must be pre-booked, which you can do here.
2. Mavericks Car vs Bikes Showdown
The renowned Mostyn-based motorcycle workshop Mavericks is hosting one of their biggest events of the summer – the epic car vs bikes showdown right here on the North Welsh coast! Entries from cars and bikes are still being received, or if you’d prefer to spectate and get your petrolheads on, then this event is perfect for you. Starting at 10 am, free and on a first-come, first-serve basis, the organisers have advised that you turn up early to Mavericks Wales (8 Mostyn Road Business Park, Llannerch-y-Môr, Holywell CH8 9DQ) to avoid disappointment!
3. Ardudwy Knights at Harlech Castle
Fancy a blast into the past with some cool combat displays and birds of prey shows? Then Harlech Castle is the place to be this August bank holiday on Saturday and Sunday! The event, which runs from 11am-6pm over the weekend, will include weaponry demos, archery, and a chance to watch the Ardudwy knights. You can find out more and book your tickets here.
4. Parkrun – countrywide
Fantastic news for some (but not for others!) is that Parkruns across the country are back up and running – pardon the pun. Thousands of runners join this free event each Saturday morning, which is a great way to socialise, entertain the family, gain a sense of achievement and see the great outdoors! 5. Quaynotes on the Grid
Are you into live music of the jazz variety, and keen to explore the beautiful Victorian coastal town of Llandudno? Well, we have the event for you! Local swing jazz quintet The Quaynotes are revving up for a new series of smooth and cool jazz at The Motorsport Lounge, Llandudno’s new themed bar. 6. Denbighshire Art Society Summer Exhibition
Colwyn Bay is host to the Annual Summer Exhibition of the Denbighshire Art Society, which was first established over 80 years ago! This family-friendly and free event is the perfect activity for those exploring culture and history along the North Welsh coast, or those seeking some shade on this sunny weekend.
7. Free Band gig at the Town House, Llandudno
Celebrate live music being reintroduced to the world in Mostyn Street’s bar/pub on Saturday night! The region’s leading wedding band, Double Vision, are set to get crowds dancing between 9-11pm. Tickets aren’t required, and you can find out more about the band here.
8. Moonlight Flicks at Dean’s Field
Make the most of the lovely weather at Chester Cathedral’s very own open-air theatre! On Friday, August 27th and Saturday, August 28th, Tom Cruise will be visiting the city close to North Wales for an exclusive viewing of Top Gun (12A.) Tickets can be booked in advance here.
9. Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre
Time to pop the Prosecco and join an organised (outdoor!) event again with screenings of The Jungle Book, the Merry Wives of Windsor, and Pride and Prejudice. Tickets are selling out fast, so be sure to get yours here!
10. Beaumaris Aristan Market
This beautiful fort town is hosting a bank holiday Artisan market on Saturday, August 28th from 10am until Sunday, August 29th until 4pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to head to the beautiful coastline boasting views of the Menai Straits, have a play around the wonderful castle remains and park, and soak up the local culture. Expect handmade crafts, local produce, and bits and bobs for the whole family to enjoy.
11. Abersoch Mackerel Race
This charity event is an annual one that families and kids can really get stuck into! Meet at Abersoch main beach in the morning, and go out in your teams to catch the mackerel. Those who catch the most mackerel in 90 minutes win, and the fish are then sold with proceeds going towards Abersoch RNLI and Air Sea Rescue.
12. Live Music
Head down to the market town of Mold, in Flintshire, for an evening of rocking and rolling at the cosy local pub, Y Pentan. Starting at 9pm on Saturday, August 28th, this live gig is one to be enjoyed by adults.
13. Party in the Park
After a sellout success earlier this month, Party in the Park returns to Lyons Robin Hood for a second time on Monday, August 30th! Free to owners and holidaymakers alike, crowds are set to be entertained with a wealth of live music, guest acts, in-house entertainment from the Robin Hood Rangers, stilt walkers and even fire breathers!
14. Wrexham Food & Drink Festival
A mouth-watering celebration of North Wales’ best local produce! Businesses from around the region are set to gather in Wrexham Town Centre to tempt, treat and tantalise festival visitors. Expect plenty of samples and tasters, demos, workshops, and even something for the kids! 15. Souled to Play All Dayer
It’s Bank Holiday weekend, so why not celebrate with an all-dayer of Motown and soul at Colwyn Bay Football Club?! Starting from 2pm on Saturday, August 28th right through until 1am – that’s 11 hours of pure club classics! There will also be a raffle on the day, food, and ample parking.
