British author, TV reporter and Mail on Sunday travel writer Jo Kessel documents her stay at Woodlands Hall – find out more!
At Lyons Holiday Parks, we’re proud to welcome a wealth of people from all over the globe to our stunning locations across North Wales and Cumbria. This summer, Lyons Woodlands Hall in Ruthin played host to Jo Kessel, renowned TV Reporter and travel writer for the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph.
Jo – who has written about her worldwide travels which include Antarctica, Mexico, Northern Spain, and The Shetland Islands – brought her children along to our family-friendly park, and spent the week exploring the beautiful local area. Luckily for us, this esteemed vlogger has uploaded the review of her countryside escape to her popular YouTube channel, ‘Go With Jo.’

What does Jo have to say about Lyons Woodlands Hall?
Jo said: “On a recent trip to Wales I stayed in my first ever caravan park. It was Lyons Woodlands Hall Caravan Park in Ruthin, North Wales. There are LOTS of caravan parks in Wales, but what the Welsh call a ‘caravan’ is what I would call a static caravan or static mobile home. This park was stunning, set in beautiful countryside overlooking a Welsh valley full of grazing sheep. The caravan park also has a lovely restaurant, bar and tennis court (all reviewed) and there are lots of great fun activities to do from the park.
Tell us more about the accommodation, Jo!
“This video offers an inside look and tour of both the park and our 6-berth caravan. The caravan had two bedrooms (sleeping two each) and two bathrooms and space for another two to sleep in the lounge. The lounge was HUGE. Some of the caravans on the site were just beautiful – real works of art – like the one I’m standing in front of in the video’s thumbnail picture. Their owners design them like they would a proper house and to a very high spec.”
Jo stayed in a 6-berth silver caravan, which includes two bedrooms with linen, a separate family bathroom, an en-suite bathroom, integrated kitchen appliances, a TV with Freeview, and a gas fire in the lounge. The difference between silver and gold is double-glazing and central heating, and our platinum accommodation boasts further luxury and opulence.
What did you get up to during your stay?
“I visited Conwy, where I walked the town’s medieval 13th-century walls and visited the smallest house in Great Britain (see next video). I also found a couple of amazing beaches. One was at Colwyn Bay and the other was even better – we walked across the sand dunes backing Barkby Beach in the seaside resort of Prestatyn and found our own private cove (see video). And also not to miss is the National Trust’s Bodnant Gardens – they are just beautiful. You could spend a whole day exploring its expansive grounds.”
Ruthin is a beautiful historic town located in Denbighshire and is like nowhere else in Wales. It’s a surprising little town layered with centuries of history and set in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain.
