Things to do in North Wales for families! This May half term, why not join us at Lyons holiday parks, with 20 parks to choose from across North Wales and Cumbria, along the coast line to countryside, we’ve put together some of the best events going on in and around our parks, so if it’s holiday parks with entertainment you’re after, then look no further! But if you want a break from the park to take in all the local attractions, check out our list of things to do for families this May!

#1. Welsh Mountain Zoo

If you are looking for a fun family day out, why not head over to the Welsh Mountain Zoo located in Colwyn Heights, Colwyn Bay. As one of North Wales’s top attractions there really is something for everyone. From animals, breath taking views and beautiful gardens the Welsh Mountain Conservation Zoo is a full day out for all ages!

With special events going on all May half term, from daily species talks, colourful crafts and the rainbow hearts trail. The zoo is under a half an hour drive from several of our parks!

#2. Rhyl Sea Aquarium

Situated on the North Wales Sea front Rhyl Sea Aquarium welcome all new explorers to discover the wonders of the ocean. With sea life species from all corners of the world, plus the amazing outdoor Seal Cove where you can meet the delightful seals and with day tickets under 10 pounds for kids and adults and only a stone throws away from our main complex Robin Hood.

#3. Men at Arms

Beaumaris Castle is welcoming fighting knights to the castle over the Bank Holiday Weekend!  You can go along and train to be a knight for the day in the Knights school for children. Learn about the weapons and archery in displays and talks! Practice your skills in combat and see how the soldiers attacked and defended their castle, there will also be medieval music and a jester’s workshop if fighting is not your thing! Situated just over the bridge on Anglesey, Beaumaris castle is under half an hour drive from some of our parks!

#4. Guided I’m A Celebrity Tours at Gwrych Castle

Learn how Gwrych Castle went from being a grand family home to becoming a derelict ruin, and then the star of ITV’s “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!” in 2020 & 2021.

The guide will show you the set locations used for the show, share fascinating facts, as well as providing behind the scenes access to areas not included within the standard visitor routes, such as the marble staircase and the Dining Room which was used for challenges! They are also dog friendly so bring your pups along for the tour if they are kept on leads! Gwrych castle is only a short drive from a handful of our parks.

#5. Manorafon Farm Park

If you’re looking to get up close and cuddle with the animals of the farm, then Manorafan Farm Park is the place to be! Meet, greet and feed the animals on the park. As well as the animals there are indoor and outdoor play centres for kids so no matter the weather there is plenty to do! Located on the north Wales cost line right next to Gwrych castle this fun farm day out is under half an hour drive from some of our parks!

Not to mention this May half term Manorafon Farm will be hosting Farm Fest, from foam parties to pony shows there will be more than ever to get stuck into. #6. Fun Land Towyn

Located opposite our very own Winkups park is the Fun Land amusement park, The funfair has rides suitable for small children, and adrenaline inducing rides for bigger kids and adults. There are food and drinks stalls on the amusement park and prize stalls, it’s easy to spend a full family day out there. the arcades have all the games you’d expect to see in a modern family entertainment centre. You can spend your time playing the classic 2p pushers, Win tickets on the numerous redemption games, grab a prize from one of the crane machines, or battle it out against your family on the air hockey tables.

#7. Green Wood Family Park

When looking for things to do in North Wales for families, Green wood family park is a perfect choice, with a wide variety of activities to choose from there is something for all ages from the Green Dragon Coaster ride and the Solar Splash to the barefoot trail and the moon karts! Situated overlooking the mountains of Snowdonia, Greenwood family park is a full family day out. Only a short drive from some of our parks.

#8. Pirate crazy golf

If you are looking for something a little closer to home, then why not stay on the park at Robin Hood and join us for a round of pirate crazy golf, with 18 holes on the course your golfing skills will be put to the test with various obstacles ranging from pirates to sharks and even a giant octopus! Guests staying in nearby Lyons parks are more than welcome to come down to robin hood for a game as well!

#9. Beach days (dog friendly!)

When the weather is sunny and bright there is no better place than to spend the day than at the beach! Across North Wales the coastline is full of gorgeous beaches and coves. The perfect family day out is never complete with out the whole team, So we have put together a list of dog friendly beaches so your furry friends can come along and complete the team!

#10. Portmeirion Village

If you’re looking for a day of sight seeing with plenty of wonderful picture opportunities, why not head down to the Italian style village situated between the mountains of Snowdonia and Dwyryd estuary. Built by Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams Ellis this beautiful village is full of wonders and surprises at every corner. Soak up the European atmosphere with home made gelato ice cream, take a stroll through the woodlands or the beaches to find all the hidden gems this place has to offer.

A group of Zebras is called a Dazzle, and ZeZe certainly Dazzles with her hip dance moves and rocking smusic taste

The latest member of the Beach Buddies is ZeZe! After Leo, Milo and Hetty enjoyed the delights of Mombasa Beach and the Chalbi desert on their backpacking trip through Kenya, they made a friend in ZeZe, the sassy, rockin’ and dazzling Zebra. ZeZe has a natural flair for playing any instrument available to her and she loves writing songs for her friends. Much to the delight of Hetty who loves a boogie.

Milo loves to tell jokes… “Why did the monkey take its banana to the doctors? It wasn’t peeling good.”

A cheeky-chappie who loves to joke, Milo is enthusiastic about EVERYTHING! You will often see Milo bounding around park, full of energy. Milo absolutely loves all things bananas; Banana bread, banana
cookies, banana milk! Milo’s favourite dance move is the “banana split!”, letting his creativity shine when he’s rapping and dancing, Milo loves joining Hetty in making up new, cool moves. The laughter never stops when Milo is around with his funny jokes, friendly pranks and infectious chuckle! Milo’s good-nature and zest for
life, means you just want to be around him all the time.

Cool and smart, Leo is definitely, the “mane” man!

Full of energy, Leo is a probably the coolest guy you’ll ever meet and he loves making new friends! You will often find Leo socialising with all his friends and hosting the best parties. Keeping active is Leo’s favourite way to spend his time! Leo will try any sport or activity from playing basketball and football to archery, becoming a master of them all! Smart, logical and grounded, Leo leads his Buddies, always thinking of games and exciting activities. You can’t help but smile when Leo is around.

Hetty always says, “I’m gonna hippo-pot-a-miss you!” When it's time to say goodbye

The quietest of all her friends with a big imagination, Hetty always has the most fantastical, creative ideas and believes that all dreams can come true! Hetty can often be found dancing around park and making up new moves with Milo for her friends to join in all her dances. Hetty loves all things colourful and covered in sparkles, her favourite colour is pink… all shades of pink! Baby pink, bubble-gum pink, flamingo… She loves them all! Kind-hearted and loveable, Hetty loves to meet new friends and giving them all a big hippo hug. You can’t help but feel all warm and fuzzy when you meet Hetty.
